MAASUx

MAASUx is a regional event, coordinated in collaboration with a campus host organization, designed to create additional opportunities to engage the midwest APIDA student community. MAASUx is a free event designed to attract college students from surrounding campuses to participate in educational workshops and fun activities. Through the more intimate setting of MAASUx programs, students can engage in creating high-quality connections with their peers and have the opportunity to reflect on their intersecting identities and experiences. These events are normally attended by 50-100 students.

MAASUx was initially launched in 2010 as MAASU Mixers before changing its name in summer 2016. Each MAASUx event began having a programming theme in 2017.

What Is MAASUx?

MAASUx is a regional, campus-hosted event coordinated in collaboration with a local APIDA student organization to create additional opportunities for APIDA students across the Midwest to connect, learn, and build community.

MAASUx is designed to be free and accessible, attracting college students from surrounding campuses to participate in educational workshops, community dialogue, and fun activities. In a more intimate setting than MAASU’s large conferences, MAASUx supports deeper relationship-building and reflection on students’ intersecting identities and experiences.

Typical attendance: 50–100 students

What Happens at a MAASUx Event?

MAASUx events are intentionally structured to balance learning + community-building. Programming often includes:

Interactive workshops and facilitated discussions

Identity-based reflection and community dialogue

Social activities and networking

Collaboration with local campus/community partners

Space for students to build connections across schools

Why MAASUx Matters

Many APIDA student organizations operate in isolation, with limited opportunities to connect regionally outside of major conferences. MAASUx fills that gap by offering:

A low-barrier, free regional gathering

A chance to meet APIDA student leaders across campuses

A space to build high-quality connections in a smaller setting

Opportunities for students to engage with identity, community, and leadership development
